Rendering of proposed vegetable garden
So we began our season and I am thankful to kick it off with this type of project. Being that I am growing in my understanding of sustainability and homesteading, this project gets me back to my roots. No pun intended. I have not done a cost/savings ratio on rain barrels, however the idea is ingenious. Why not harvest the rain water that falls, to use for a later date.
What you don't see in the diagram is a drip irrigation kit that we will hook up to the rain barrel for automatic watering. This will see to it that the veggies get adequate water during the summer months. It is also a more efficient use of water.
