Gravel Lok product was used to fill the joints. For the first time ever using the product it applied very nicely and it bonded well.

Its amazing what some plants and mulch do to make everything POP!

Its getting there.

As you can see, everything is a process. Each component should build on the next and no one component makes a landscape beautiful or enjoyable to spend time in. Each element combines together to make the landscape a work of art.

Check back in the future to another element added that will enhance the feeling even more.

It has been helpful to me to first assess what you want the space to be used for. Form means nothing without function, and that function could be as simple as "enjoyment through viewing". Once that is established (and it can change) then you will list out the different components that will help you achieve that goal.
I have more to say, but would like to keep posts short. Check back again in the future.

I helped Nicolas put some plants in today at Central Church of Christ. Good work Nic. They have done a lot to get this property up and running. Its nice to add some color and beauty before the winter sets in.

So... All but the drip irrigation kit is complete and installed. The rain barrel works great and the install went smoothly apart from the weather interference.

For those that may be wondering. While the garden area is in between the two houses, it is actually the most sunny spot in the backyard during the growing season.

    So we began our season and I am thankful to kick it off with this type of project. Being that I am growing in my understanding of sustainability and homesteading, this project gets me back to my roots. No pun intended. I have not done a cost/savings ratio on rain barrels, however the idea is ingenious. Why not harvest the rain water that falls, to use for a later date.
    What you don't see in the diagram is a drip irrigation kit that we will hook up to the rain barrel for automatic watering. This will see to it that the veggies get adequate water during the summer months. It is also a more efficient use of water.
